A couple years back, I saw someone on the net cut the legs off of their jeans, sew them up, and make a cute little jeans purse complete with a homemade strap from scrap cloth. These have been made before by others, and yet they remain a very easy, very chic DIY recycling project nearly anyone can commit to with jeans that are just too torn, too worn, or don’t fit anymore. Now when I say DIY – please don’t imagine hammers and nails and screwing in door furniture and whatnot – this is really rather simple craft-orientated tasks. Here’s what I did:-
I distressed the jeans top I was to use with bleach marks. I then simmered them in a pot of boiling water with brownish clay dirt in it and gave it a fantastic dirty wash. I took an old belt that didn’t fit, closed the buckle, placed it on a comfortable spot on my shoulder, cut it in half at the bottom, and sewed the ends onto the inside of the hips to make a really neat strap. I sewed buttons and put pins on the front. I used pieces of fabric from the jeans themselves to make a strap. A jeans purse will just hang open if you don’t have a way to close it. I tied a piece of string that was easy to work with in my hands to the belt loop in the very back. I wrapped that around the front button when I wanted my purse to be closed up. Those are just a few of the things I did to create my unique purse.
